For the 4th of July we went to Blanding this year. We drove down on Wed. July 2nd and got there at about 9:30 p.m. The kids were so excited because Grandpa and Grandma Lyman's dog Ellie had had puppies 8 weeks before and so we got to see them for the first time. They were especially excited because we were going to keep one of the puppies as a playmate for Belle. (Belle wasn't so excited about this idea because she hates other dogs but hopefully eventually she'll get used to having another dog around and they'll become friends:) Oakley is holding Oreo (or Max). Addi is holding Domino (or Deuce). We decided to keep Oreo.
On Thursday morning I took Oakley and Addi swimming at baby hour at the Blanding pool (don't tell Oakley it's called baby hour, he'd have a fit; our old pool here in Payson has a small shallow pool and I call it the baby pool and he always insists it is the "kid pool"). Stacy, Taylor, Logan, Noelle, Trent, and Maxon all went with us swimming. The kids had a great time. Addi and Logan even got brave enough to go down the slide a few times. The funny thing was they would go down once then climb back up to do it again but chicken out. This happened several times.
After we got back from swimming we all went up to the cabin on Blue Mountain. We had a picnic lunch and then most of us went for a four-wheeler ride. That night when we got back we had an awesome dinner of grilled steak and corn, dutch oven potatoes, pasta salad, and raspberry bread pudding. YUM! Stacy, Taylor, Kolton, Josh, and Trent decided to play softball in the Midnight Madness tournament. It was a double elimination tournament and they lost their first two games. The one good thing with that was that they were in bed by 11:00.
The morning of the 4th some of us got up early to run the kids 1 mile fun run and the 5K. Jensen and Camryn ran the fun run. They did really well. They finished in around 11 minutes.
Kristi, Me, Taylor, Lexi, Dad, and Mom ran in the 5K. We didn't win but we all finished:)
After the 5K we got showered and went to watch the parade. It was a lot of fun. The kids loved it. They especially loved the fire truck that hosed them down!
After the parade was over we went to the carnival. We waited in line for awhile and got Navajo Tacos and Fry Bread with honey for lunch. It was yummy! It's just not the 4th without a Navajo Taco. When we finished eating we walked around for awhile and looked at the booths. The most exciting thing was this tall pole with a bell at the top. Kids were lined up trying to climb up and ring the bell. Jensen and Kolton both got in line to give it a try. It was a long wait. Eventually we realized that whenever a kid hit the bell they won $10! The catch was that the pole was greased. Jensen made it to the top and won the money.
They greased the pole after Jensen so Kolton had a really slick pole to climb. He didn't make it.
We decided that we were done with the carnival and went home to Grandpa and Grandma Lyman's. Grandpa and Grandma and most of the grandkids got their swimming suits on and went swimming over at Uncle Jeff's. They had tons of fun. It's awesome that they have such great Grandparents to help keep them entertained.
The girls were having handstand contests in the pool. Grandpa wanted to get in on the contest.
AND THE WINNER IS...
GRANDPA!!!
After swimming everyone crashed for awhile to get ready for the melodrama and the fireworks.
That evening some of us went to the melodrama to cheer for the hero and boo and hiss at the villain. The kids loved throwing their popcorn at the villain. After the melodrama we went to the park to watch the fireworks. They were awesome. Blanding is definitely the place to spend the 4th of July!
On Saturday Matt, Trent, and Grandpa and Grandma went four-wheeling again. The rest of us just stayed at home and had a lazy day. On Sunday morning we went to church with Grandpa and Grandma. After church we went home to eat and get ready to go home. We loaded up the kids and two of the puppies and home we went. The new puppy is so much fun and we also have one of the other puppies that we're trying to sell. The kids love playing with them and it's going to be hard to sell one of them.
