Our first triathlon

Jensen and I signed up to do our first triathlons this year. They were both in Blanding on July 24 (the kid's Hillman triathlon) and July 25 (the Hillman sprint triathlon).
Waiting for the kid's triathlon to start. I don't remember what Oakley was pointing at and I'm looking at.
The swimming was 2 laps (100 meters).

Jensen was the second one out of the water by a fraction of a second.

The bike ride was 2 miles.

The run was 1 mile. Jensen was kind of struggling after the first 1/2 mile so her awesome Aunt Noelle ran with her for the last 1/2 mile to help encourage her.

I was so proud of her! She did awesome!

She took 2nd in her age group! Once she saw the awesome medal she decided it was totally worth doing.
The next morning was the sprint triathlon that I had signed up for. Noelle, Jeremy, and Kristi also did it.
Waiting with butterflies in my stomach! I was so nervous. We were told that the Hillman triathlon was a pretty hard one. Not necessarily the one you want to pick for your first. I wasn't very happy with Kristi because she was the one who talked me into doing it.

The swim was 1/2 mile. Across Recapture Reservoir and back.

The swim was so hard! I used the wrong kind of wetsuit and it was a big mistake. I felt like I was gasping for breath the entire swim. Next time I will rent a triathlon wetsuit or not use one at all, lesson learned.

Transition from swim to bike. I wasn't too worried about my time. I just wanted to finish.

Do I at least look like I know what I'm doing?

The bike was 15.2 miles. The first mile was a steep hill out of the reservoir.

Transition from bike to run.

They said the run was 3.2 miles but we're all pretty sure it was more like 3.5 miles. Noelle finished first of the four of us. She also finished first in her age group. Go Noelle, YOU ROCK!

Jeremy finished 2nd.

Taking a breather.

Kristi and I promised each other that we would stay together so if we finished last we would finish last together. We didn't finish last, we finished second to last but the important thing is we finished! And I think we actually both enjoyed doing it. I certainly hope this isn't my last triathlon and I hope to improve next year and do the Hillman again.

Oakley enjoying some watermelon. Alot of our family was there to support us, thanks guys, you're the best!

I ended up taking 2nd in my age group which means there were only two of us in my age group which means I also took last in my age group but 2nd sounds better than last! Okay Kristi, I'm not mad at you any more. Thanks for making me do it.

July happenings

Okay, it happened again, I went three weeks without updating our blog and I'm way behind. So here is one long post about the last three weeks.

This first picture is Lexi and Jensen with their friends Danielle and Brooke showing off some BLING!

We were invited to go to Jump On It for a birthday surprise for James Gabler (he's 30, OLD!).
Lexi loved playing with their baby Brooklyn.

She also loves doing handstands, even at Jump On It.

Addi.

Jensen practicing her back flips.

We planted a garden for the first time this year. The squash and zucchini are doing awesome!
Oakley and Addi showing off some squash, zucchini, and strawberries.

A few days later we picked more squash and zucchini, two cucumbers and our first tomato.

Jensen had a Daddy-Daughter hoe-down for activity days. Matt was in Wyoming so my dad came up to go with her.
Grandpa and Jensen all cowboyed up for the hoe-down.

The girls learned some country dancin' that they did for the dads and grandpa.

Trent and Noelle invited us to go boating at Utah Lake. We got there and put the boat in the water but when we tried to start it the battery was dead. Matt had to pull the boat around to the ramp where we got a jump.

Yup, we're getting a jump from a truck. Some people were just getting ready to get their boat out and so they pulled their truck down to help us.

The kids had a great time just swimming in the lake and cooling off.

Trent showing off his skills, surfing behind the boat.

Noelle showed us how to wakeboard.

Matt decided to give it a try.

He didn't get to try for long though because the handle broke.

Thanks Trent and Noelle, we had a great time!
